SAT | PSAT Suite of Assessments
Denver Public Schools is offering a free eight-week, at-home, virtual SAT test prep program for 11th grade students, in partnership with Tutored by Teachers, with live and experienced teachers providing guidance on the Math and EBRW (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing) sections of the test, as well as test-taking strategies specific to the new digital administration of the SAT.

The SAT Suite of Assessments is an integrated system of tests that measure reading, writing and math skills important for college and career readiness and success. Results from these assessments provide insights into academic strengths and weaknesses, indicators of student readiness for AP (Advanced Placement) coursework, and connect students with access to scholarship opportunities. SAT results can be reported for use in college and university admissions.

DPS has partnered with Khan Academy and College Board to provide free resources for students taking the PSAT 10 and the SAT. Students can link their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to get personalized practice results. Free college planning information is also available on the College Board’s Big Future website.

Opting Out of Assessments
Families who wish to excuse their student from participation in one or more of the state assessments may do so by filling out the district’s opt-out application in Parent Portal from October to February. You may still opt out by scheduling an appointment with your principal or AP and request the Assessment Participation Exemption form to be printed off for you to sign (if your student has not begun taking tests). You may also write a letter and bring it with you to the meeting. If you have more than one child, you will need to fill out the form or write a letter for each child to opt out.
We encourage our students to participate in all assessments because they provide valuable information to families and educators that show whether students have mastered grade-level content and are on track to graduate prepared for the 21st century. Results from these assessments inform where Denver Public Schools can improve curriculum, instruction and leadership in order to ensure that every child receives an equitable education and is on a path to success.
